V.B.
V.B. was born in Upland California on September 4th 1987. In 1993, he and his family moved to Garden City, Idaho. Less than a year later, they made the short move to Eagle, Idaho. This was where V.B. grew up and started his amazing journey.
At the age of 6 a flier was sent to the house about a wrestling club. Right off the bat it was very clear that V.B. would be a natural at the sport. It took a few years for it to click, but once it did, he just kept getting better and better.
Before he attended high school, V.B. became an accomplished wrestler. By the age of 13, He had countless freestyle and Greco state titles. He earned three western regional titles (that includes 13 states), and at the National Tournament in Fresno, California he placed in both styles; 2nd in Greco and 6th in freestyle. This gave him his first two USA Wrestling All American awards. V.B. also captured two WOW (World of Wrestling) All American awards; One by placing 3rd In the Reno Tournament of Champions, and by placing 2nd in Colorado at the Mile High Tournament of Champions. These accomplishments made him well prepared for high school competition.
V.B. had high expectations for himself in high school wrestling, but what he did in his four years in High school would be more than he had imagined. For the first part of his freshmen year he was undeafted. It wasn't until early January, 2002 when he faced his first loss in the finals of the Rollie Lane Tournament. The match was forced to stop due to a concussion that he suffered during the match. After recovering, he was at it again, not losing until the last regular season tournament; Tiger Griz. he added two more losses to his record. After that last loss, something clicked in is head saying "NO MORE!" V.B. went on the rest of the year winning every match and capturing his first state championship as a freshmen. Amazing as that sounds, what he did the next three years was nearly impossible. After that last loss as a freshman, he never lost again in is high school career. He rode a 139 winning streak becoming the fifth person to win four high school state titles in the 5A division for the state of Idaho. This left him with an amazing 154 wins and only 3 losses.
After high school, V.B. had offers to wrestle at Boise State and the University of Iowa. Unfortunately he was unable to pass the NCAA clearing house and was forced to choose outside of the NCAA. He made his choice to wrestle with his older brother at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR. V.B. ended up placing 4th at the NJCAA national tournament, becoming an All American again, and helping his team to place 7th that year.
On April 15, 2015, V.B. passed away at the age of 27. He was a wonderful father, son and brother. Putting more effort into his kids then he ever did with wrestling; which says so much about him. He truly loved the people in his sport of wrestling, he cherished the friendships he made throughout his life and doing what he loved to do. Always on our Mind and in our Heart.
